Obsolete Skills: Evaluating used binoculars



Old binoculars turn up all the time at thrift stores and yard sales. There are some important ways of evaluating their quality and condition.  For instance, whether they're American or German-style Porro prismatic or straight-through types with tradenames like Trinovid (Leitz), Hensold Dialyt (Zeiss) or Miida (Japanese),  and whether they're central focusing (CF) or independent focusing (IF).
