Locomotive Scotia

The Scotia, showing its British design roots, was built at the Hamilton works of the Great Western Railway in 1861. This locomotive and the other locomotive in the class, the Erin, had the distinction of being the first locomotives in North America with a steel boiler. Both were retired in 1870 when the the rail gauge in Canada was changed from 5' 6" to 4' 8 1/2".
