Saddle Horse meets Iron Horse

British Columbia Magazine, Spring 2011.
This photo is from the Kettle Valley Steam Railway in Summerland, B.C.  This is a  2-8-0 steam locomotive built in 1912 by the Montreal Locomotive Works.  It operates on a 16 kilometre stretch of the old "Coast to Kootenay Connection" built between 1910 and 1915 to carry Okanagan fruit, ore and timber.

Another working steam excursion can be taken aboard the Kamloops Heritage Railway pulled by a 2-8-0 steam locomotive built in 1912 by the Canadian Locomotive Company in Kingston, Ontario.  On Vancouver Island, you can visit the Alberni Valley Heritage Network  and ride behind a restored 1929 Baldwin ex-logging locomotive, then visit the McLean Steam Sawmill, the only commercial steam-operated sawmill in Canada.
