Rolls the Aeronaut

Laurence Meynell.  Rolls:  Man of Speed.  A life of Charles Stewart Rolls and some account of the early days of Motoring and Flying.  London:  The Bodley Head, 1953.
On June 2, 1910, at age 32, Charles Rolls became the first person to fly nonstop across the English Channel and back, winning the Gold Medal of the Royal Aero Club.  One month later he was killed when the tail of his Wright Flyer broke off during a flying display.  He was the first Briton to be killed in a powered aircraft accident.
